How tax is worked out
Sales tax follows your billing address.
It's charged on usage and on hosting and domain purchases, never on funds you add.
Billing › Sales tax shows the rate that applies to you.
In Texas, for example, hosting is taxed as a data processing service, and 20% of the charge is exempt.
If you change your billing address in Settings › Billing details, we tell you the new rate straight away.
Tax exemption
If your business is tax exempt, or buys for resale:
Go to Settings › Tax and choose Upload certificate.
Pick the type: Resale certificate, Exempt organization or Out-of-state use.
Add the certificate number if it has one, and upload the PDF, JPG or PNG (up to 10 MB).
Our team reviews it. You can see where it stands in Settings › Tax: Under review, Approved, Expired or Revoked. Once it's approved, new usage isn't taxed.
Owners, Admins and Billing members can upload certificates.
