How hourly charges and the monthly cap work

What you pay for a server, and the most it can cost in a month.

Last verified

What's charged

  • Servers and other hourly resources are charged for every clock hour they exist, from the moment they're ready until you destroy them.

  • Any part of an hour counts as a full hour.

  • Charges post to your balance every hour, as one line for usage and one for sales tax.

  • Stopped servers are still charged. Powering a server off doesn't stop billing, because the server and its address are still reserved for you. To stop paying, destroy the server.

  • Add-ons such as automatic backups and DDoS protection are charged alongside the server.

The monthly cap

Each server stops charging once it reaches its monthly cap of hours, shown on the Deploy page as Most per month. Hours after that are free until the next month starts. Each add-on has its own cap too.

You can see how close each server is to its cap on Usage.
