Domain renewals and expiry

Auto-renew, renewing early, and what happens if a domain expires.

Last verified

Auto-renew

With auto-renew on, we renew the domain for a year 14 days before it expires. It's paid from your balance or card, as set under Pay renewals.

We send reminders 30 days before expiry, and again 7 days before if auto-renew is off or a payment is failing.

Renewing now

On the domain's Overview, choose Renew now, pick how many years, and pay. The years are added to the end of the current registration. You can renew up to 10 years ahead. Renewals can't be refunded.

Turning auto-renew off

Switch off Auto-renew and tell us why. The domain then expires on its expiry date unless you renew it.

If a renewal payment fails

We email the account owner and keep trying. The balance is used as soon as it covers the amount, and the card is tried again after 1, 3 and 5 days.

After it expires

The domain shows Expired, but you can still renew it at the normal price for a short time. The domain page shows the last day to renew, and we email reminders. After that, contact support: the domain may still be recoverable, for a fee.

Owners, Admins and Billing members can renew domains and change auto-renew.
